The Rebel Within questions how value is determined, and what we choose to show and why. Created for a client who was gifted a round solitaire diamond, it rejects the default rule that a diamond belongs on the outside for all to see, and asks what gives a diamond value in an age when it can be lab-made.
At the center: a loose lab grown diamond is encased yet free to move inside a platinum sphere of circular cutouts. As it rolls, it creates a subtle sound - present, but only seen in glimpses as it catches the light.
The platinum sphere can be worn as a necklace, or it sits inside an opening 14k gold egg. That egg is then housed within a larger sterling silver egg that screws open and is worn on a chain.
Each layer reveals a shift in material, melting point, and symbolism - like a nesting doll of precious metals, turning the usual hierarchy of preciousness inside out.
The egg form symbolizes transformation - reconsidering what we call valuable and technology’s place in our lives. It also evokes fertility - creation shaped, at times, by science.
Finally, the piece is an exploration of trust - the stone stays hidden by design; you have to know it’s there. Here, value is defined by the wearer, not by the gaze.
